Until I got sorted. <a href="https://comment.org/the-tree-of-india/">The piece</a> clocks in at about 2.73 miles per word. Bharat, of course, is changing quickly, and—especially in the north—her billboards and posters showed more interest in her G20 status than in her ancient spiritual tradition. Narendra Modi’s photo was more ubiquitous in Varanasi than Shiva’s. The glitz of Mumbai exceeds that of Hollywood. But the India I went in search of, thankfully, can still be found. </span><br /></p><p><style>@font-face

One might even go so far as to call the assumption that Christianity and Indigenous identity are to remain separate (despite<a href="https://www.nebraskapress.unl.edu/nebraska/9781496211842/"> all </a>the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Crow-Jesus-Personal-Religious-Belonging/dp/0806155876">evidence</a> suggesting <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Paths-Kateris-Kin-AMERICAN-INDIAN/dp/0268038643/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=JS3en&content-id=amzn1.sym.ed85217c-14c9-4aa0-b248-e47393e2ce12&pf_rd_p=ed85217c-14c9-4aa0-b248-e47393e2ce12&pf_rd_r=131-4325189-3166613&pd_rd_wg=kYqH6&pd_rd_r=e31a251e-a411-404e-815d-1da8fbf0c68a&ref_=aufs_ap_sc_dsk">otherwise</a>, over <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Where-Roads-American-Indian-Catholics/dp/0268019576?ref_=ast_author_dp">and</a> over <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Padres-Trail-American-Indian-Catholics/dp/0268037027/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=jidyK&content-id=amzn1.sym.ed85217c-14c9-4aa0-b248-e47393e2ce12&pf_rd_p=ed85217c-14c9-4aa0-b248-e47393e2ce12&pf_rd_r=131-4325189-3166613&pd_rd_wg=Mk17D&pd_rd_r=58811e6b-7825-4cb7-800d-d00635a4b1a5&ref_=aufs_ap_sc_dsk">again</a>) to be "dualistic." But this is all the more reason to traverse it when invited (as we were), however ridiculous we may look as we do. <br /></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4Aen6GstNezQna5klwSj6rnLeQhEgMJg4Enr4t5_G-tYdkBDvatw5xF8M85iWgRbWZGEH8pRXRAARS4rBG9wfeBz_6SYR-I2mJZI3bSX5f89JbS2uTgP70UWDZ_HlZpMfKrkT7mylwD7bzguav01VRAw_mkLpvICt5vGztUwWSetJjtLhFs_jtA/s1115/Screenshot%202023-08-07%20at%203.11.37%20PM.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="369" data-original-width="1115" height="175" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4Aen6GstNezQna5klwSj6rnLeQhEgMJg4Enr4t5_G-tYdkBDvatw5xF8M85iWgRbWZGEH8pRXRAARS4rBG9wfeBz_6SYR-I2mJZI3bSX5f89JbS2uTgP70UWDZ_HlZpMfKrkT7mylwD7bzguav01VRAw_mkLpvICt5vGztUwWSetJjtLhFs_jtA/w529-h175/Screenshot%202023-08-07%20at%203.11.37%20PM.png" width="529" /></a></div><br /><br /><p></p>millinerdhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01881164503284706248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6174606.post-20208454440395389762023-07-13T07:36:00.006-05:002023-07-13T07:36:56.645-05:00Unravelling the Loom of Doom<p> A piece on Mary and Universalism at <a href="https://t.co/tO6mSW82I6">Eclectic Orthodoxy. </a></p>millinerdhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01881164503284706248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6174606.post-91394103882107752352023-06-19T11:55:00.003-05:002023-06-19T11:55:49.944-05:00The Tao of Mary<p>A talk on Thomas Merton, Alan Watts, the Church of the East, Buddhism, Taoism and beekeeping at the Oxford Interfaith Forum. <span class="css-901oao css-16my406 r-poiln3 r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0">Die hard Watts fans will love the fact that the same day I gave a talk comparing him to an angry bee, I got a nasty bee sting.</span></p>

It's called <a href="https://www.commonwealmagazine.org/unintended-icon">An Unintended Icon</a>?, and it regards architect Santiago Calatrava's accidental Virgin of the Passion. The collage below might give an additional sense of what I was getting at. The article is also my tell-all confession about growing up in New Jersey. I held nothing back. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSM1ZX1JYMArrsWGsxqVOegmViC6OVc7DcR9rkoJaHpMkyZPrD0-rKZ2RHdVro46VL-qdKY2xrmQXfr9p8InXijxmC-9pkYuZiDyIZ3kWkbIA5XYgcJ476d5_-3Q6titX-s4tSsYJwD2IYu-i-3WJEt96hVjewppOtV9M0P7h4LftjgRk2A_Q/s1342/Screen%20Shot%202023-03-01%20at%208.21.38%20PM.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSM1ZX1JYMArrsWGsxqVOegmViC6OVc7DcR9rkoJaHpMkyZPrD0-rKZ2RHdVro46VL-qdKY2xrmQXfr9p8InXijxmC-9pkYuZiDyIZ3kWkbIA5XYgcJ476d5_-3Q6titX-s4tSsYJwD2IYu-i-3WJEt96hVjewppOtV9M0P7h4LftjgRk2A_Q/s1342/Screen%20Shot%202023-03-01%20at%208.21.38%20PM.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjJRtHlvEEA4bEzNpvLk06kRvXks15DDwfHBoIV2qoQRj_AeMhE72UH8cnZ9pjsVqLDAdmlhzl5AHcMOnJ3quKB6lIfWV1FXWcglSg34ap4xkKOzC6Hwyi38VkJSOE8mxFWmhYaHOMAUC50izy7SUFm8GfVu1s3UqZ3yt8bTgH2vcovC35oR0/s1080/Screen%20Shot%202023-03-01%20at%208.47.06%20PM.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="639" data-original-width="1080" height="376" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjJRtHlvEEA4bEzNpvLk06kRvXks15DDwfHBoIV2qoQRj_AeMhE72UH8cnZ9pjsVqLDAdmlhzl5AHcMOnJ3quKB6lIfWV1FXWcglSg34ap4xkKOzC6Hwyi38VkJSOE8mxFWmhYaHOMAUC50izy7SUFm8GfVu1s3UqZ3yt8bTgH2vcovC35oR0/w636-h376/Screen%20Shot%202023-03-01%20at%208.47.06%20PM.png" width="636" /></a></div>Also, I had enjoyed an <a href="https://www.radixmagazine.com/2023/02/03/visually-sacred-an-interview-with-matthew-milliner/">extended conversation</a> with Arthur Aghajanian at <a href="https://www.imageandfaith.com/?utm_campaign=57ab2a9a-9376-413d-887c-1f68a3e55b5e&utm_source=so&utm_medium=mail&cid=b555a7f2-009f-4984-8b3f-29ba5a0dfdf1">Image and Faith</a> in his exciting <a href="https://www.imageandfaith.com/visuallysacred?utm_campaign=57ab2a9a-9376-413d-887c-1f68a3e55b5e&utm_source=so&utm_medium=mail&cid=b555a7f2-009f-4984-8b3f-29ba5a0dfdf1">Visual Faith serie</a>s. <br /></div><p></p>millinerdhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01881164503284706248noreply@blogger.com
